Elne Cloister and Cathedral : |
Elne was the ecclesiastic capital of the Roussillon from 568 to 1602, and the magnificent 10th century Romanesque Cathedral still exists today, along with the blue veined marble Cloister built between the 12th and 14th centuries.
The Cloister also presents the evolution of Medieval sculpture in the Roussillon, and in it we can see two eras, two styles and two sensibilities: the Romanesque and the Gothic. |

History Museum : |
|
Located in the Chapter House of the Cloister, we can discover
local history and see the 14th century liturgical cabinet, which
came from the Cathedral of Saint Eulalie and Saint Julie.
|
Archaeological Museum : |
Situated in the Cloister (Chapel of Saint Laurent), the museum
contains archaeological objects, pottery etc., which have come
from numerous digs around the commune, and which reflect the
history of Elne from Neolithic times to the Middle Ages.
